WIP Wednesday- R is for romance

So it occurred to me the other day that I hadn’t shared the latest finished section of the wedding sampler, so let’s have it here!

And because there isn’t a whole lot else to say about it, have a bonus pic of my scrap blanket as it currently is

I’m very happy to have reached the end of this current round. In future, I think I’ll start all four new rows at the same time, so I don’t get confused about which rows on which rounds I’ve done. I’m really liking this one, especially how it starts from the middle, and it’s still currently small enough to be workable even during this British heat wave (2 more weeks apparently, then we go back to the rain…)

WIP Thursday- blanket edition

Before we start- the answer to the question I previously posed about what the picture of Q is…broken plates! I asked on a cross stitch group I’m in, and someone came out with that. So there we go. Mystery solved 🙂

So, onto the knitting! One of my projects which has been getting more attention these days is my scrappy blanket. It’s a very nice mindless thing I can pick up without too much thought (even less thought than socks, which are currently at the increase stage of the toe, annoyingly…). Anyway, in this heat it’s too hard to think of anything else. So this easy project it is.

This is coming along well, although I doubt I’ll hit the goal I mentioned at the start of the month. It’s difficult to tell, but I am currently working on a square in the top left (left of the blue one which is left of the deep red one). After that I’ll have the three squares along the bottom half of the left edge to do to finish the round. But no rush, it’s a lovely little piece and still too small at the moment to cause me to overheat while I work on it 🙂

WIP Wednesday- blanket edition

So I wasn’t going to write about this blanket again for a while, but I kinda sorta accidentally (not really) finished the two things I did think I could talk about, so this blanket it is 🙂

According to ravelry I started this in November, which is slightly problematic since the yarn was (supposed to be) an advent calender to myself…oops. Well, I guess it doesn’t really matter since I haven’t yet finished the yarn I got (but have ordered quite a bit more ot carry on, since I have nearly finished it).

Isn’t it pretty???? I would say that I dislike following the crowd, and this blanet is no exception. Most people do mitred squares sock yarn blankets, my first one was hexagons. The second (the pillowcase) and third (this one) are using the ‘traditional’ mitred squares, but with different construction (corner out for the pillowcase, and middle out for this one). I also stick the decreases on the wrong side rows beause I dislike the ridge they form. The other side looks so much prettier in my mind 🙂 This is the back of it:

Well, that’s all from me for now. New post on Friday, since I have shiny finished things to show off 😀

Start it Sunday…oops?

So, umm, I might’ve started more than one new project this week…

But first, the cardigan sleeves! I did indeed cast on the first sleeve of Kita’s cardigan, and promptly got swallowed in the black hole of 2×2 ribbing for 7 inches…

Part way through I came to my senses, and remembered that I can’t be trusted knitting one sleeve at a time, so I cast on for the second sleeve and caught it up to the same point…knitting two sleeves somehow doesn’t make the ribbing go any faster unfortunately.

But then it was finished, and I got to start the main body of the sleeves. This was also not great, since the two sleeves have opposite cable patterns (and some matching cables too, to keep things spicy). And the main cable body started two rows after the little cables, so the row count is off whichever way I look at it. I’m happily pottling along though, and of course aran yarn always knits up really fast 🙂

At least, I thought I was happy, but then I got this in the post, and so I really can’t be held accountable for my actions…

This is 22 of the 24 miniskeins I got myself as an advent calender. I sort of sneezed, and lost track of myself, and came up with this.

Which, fortunately, isn’t square. (Half way through I remembered that I wanted to do mitred squares- knitting the blanket from the inside out, rather than bottom to top as normal, so the fact that this wasn’t square meant that I could figure out how large I should make the mitred squares. And so voila, a finished mitred square!

This had a cast on of 55 stitches (2*27+1). I decrease on the first row, because that makes the decreases on the wrong side as I prefer the look of the other side. It worked perfectly, and I used up pretty much all of the 20 yards I was given. 🙂 This might grow rather quickly, because it’s addictive. Such pretty little garter stitch squishiness!!!! Or I might actually go and do some work on the wolf cross stitch…
